The Art of Medical Interpretation® Certificate
This 60-hour Certificate of Accomplishment course is taught by a team of interpreter trainers and healthcare and/or mental health providers. Training sessions focus on interpreting techniques, cultural competency, interpreting ethics, mastering medical terminology through Samurai method, developing specialized glossaries and increasing memory power. Learning is assessed through role-plays, interpreter evaluation tools and additional didactic activities. Language coaches assist students develop target language(s) glossaries, provide constructive feedback and aid students through role-play exercises. Class size is limited to 30 students and features all spoken languages.

Getting Ready for Your Written Healthcare Interpreter Certification Exam
This 20-hour Certificate of Attendance Intensive Online Review course will help prepare healthcare interpreters for both certification exams (CCHI and NBCMI) via a simulated environment with instant feedback. Students will have the opportunity to take an initial self-diagnostic and other online quizzes in the following areas of knowledge: test-taking techniques, interpreting standards, medical terminology, review of 11 main body systems, common illnesses and procedures, interpreter standards by IMIA, NCIHC and CHIA. Throughout the course students will be provided with video presentations and opportunities for guided self-assessment on reviewed modules that will help monitor progress. This course was designed by a multidisciplinary team including healthcare interpreters and a physician.

Getting Ready for Your Oral Healthcare Interpreter Certification Exam
This 50-hour Certificate of Attendance Intensive Online Review course will prepare healthcare interpreters for both oral certification exams (CMI & CHI™) via a simulated environment. Students will have the opportunity to take an initial self-diagnostic and other online quizzes with focus on the following modules: audio-visuals, worksheets, checklists, quizzes, audio-recordings for role-play practice, role-play self-assessment forms and language coaching. Students review tips on test taking techniques, general vocabulary, how to best use memory aids, and will practice interpretation skills in the various interpreting modes, according to the time frames similar to those used on the certification exam. Throughout the course students will be provided with opportunities for guided self-assessment tools for accuracy, completeness and flow of interpretation from the recorded exercises. Instructors will provide students with feedback based on completed exercises and role-play sessions. Upon course completion, students may choose to schedule individualized language coaching sessions (up to 2-hours) to review and practice interpreting skills in areas of need.

Advanced Note-Taking Skills for Interpreters
This 20-hour Certificate of Attendance Intensive Online course will help expand your interpreting skills and work opportunities by enhancing your memory aids using the FAST Method, a note-taking technique created by CCCS, lnc.™ Although note-taking may not be a common practice among healthcare interpreters, we have seen a growing need for incorporating this method into consecutive and simultaneous interpreting for family meetings, healthcare workforce trainings and groups. Interpreters working in any field such as legal, educational and community may use this technique.

The FAST Method is unique to CCCS, lnc.™ and differs from the traditional shorthand by combining the use of symbols, healthcare and legal abbreviations. This interactive 9-lesson course provides interpreters with clear steps on how to develop a personal note-taking style in order to maximize one's memory capacity by practicing over 150 exercises. During this course, the students will be guided through the note-taking process while applying their developed skills.

NEW! Advanced Healthcare Interpreter's Guide to Diabetes
This 10-hour Certificate of Attendance online course will help interpreters with advanced skills expand their knowledge in the world of diabetes care. An initial narrated PowerPoint will introduce the anatomy and physiology of the human endocrine system; the nature of type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes, symptoms, tests and treatments for the disease, as well as an introduction to the various health professionals who provide care to diabetic patients. Vocabulary exercises will help students become comfortable with the language of diabetes both in English and in their non-English target language. Course materials will include bilingual glossaries in a variety of commonly interpreted languages in the U.S. (Arabic, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese). Recorded bilingual dialogues will give learners the opportunity to practice interpreting, with immediate access to their own recorded interpretation and a translated script so as to compare the two for accuracy. A final section will address specific challenges to interpreting in diabetes, such as the difficulty of finding linguistic equivalents for the many foods discussed by dietitians or described by patients. Interactive exercises and assessments will follow each section, and successful completion of the quizzes will be required for advancement to the next section.

NEW! Staying Safe: A Course for Interpreters Working in Healthcare Settings
This 5-Hour Certificate of Attendance Online Course is designed to help you stay safe when you work on-site in a healthcare environment – and to help make sure everyone around you stays safe too. We'll talk both about Infection control, Interpreting in Locked Inpatient Units and about "Occupational Safety" – this is, other steps you can take to keep yourself and everyone around you safe as you make your way in a hospital or clinic setting.

This course starts with a narrated PowerPoint presentation on staying safe in healthcare settings. The presentation is divided into eight parts, and each part is followed by a short quiz, so that you can reinforce and track your own learning. A total of 4 interactive exercises follow the presentation, to give you a chance to apply what you've learned. There is a final accumulative test of what you have learned.

This 25-hour Certificate of Attendance online course provides a detailed description with great clinical insight on each of the most common illnesses and disorders that are encountered in mental health. These include: depressive disorders, mood disorders, PTSD, OCD, anxiety disorders, dementia, delirium, and schizophrenia. He will also review the most common testing and treatments used in mental health.

In addition, by means of case studies, this course offers the interpreter with an opportunity to enhance one's insight regarding mental illness.
